This program provides a structured application of proven Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) processes. It contains focused cognitive restructuring activities that are known to help manage mood disorders and lessen the severity and duration of episodes.

The behavioural component of this course assists with helping people re-engage with living in helpful ways. Participants also learn how to track and monitor mood fluctuations to help gain insight and control over their illness.

This program may be suitable for you if:

What you will experience

Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions lead by a qualified Allied Health Professional. Each session will support you to use new skills to guide, inspire and motivate yourself to set goals, take action and enrich your life. You will practice applying skills in your own day-to-day before the next session. Bring what you have learnt and experienced to each group for feedback and input.

Treatment objectives

Objective 1

Understanding Depression - Learn what symptoms you might experience with depression, explore factors that can contribute to depression and start to implement strategies to improve mood.

Objective 2

Understanding Anxiety – Learn what symptoms you may experience with anxiety, explore your own experience with anxiety and start to practice anxiety management strategies.

Objective 3

Unhelpful Thinking – Explore and understand the relationship between your beliefs and how you feel and act. Learn how to challenge unhelpful thoughts and identify unhelpful thinking patterns.

Objective 4

Core Beliefs – Gain an understanding of what core beliefs are, and how your beliefs may influence your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Learn how to challenge beliefs and replace with more balanced or helpful beliefs.

Objective 5

Understanding and Managing Emotions – Learn the purpose of emotions and how to manage intense emotions through easy to access strategies.

How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Deakin Private Hospital by calling 02 5114 8100.
